CROWS NEST HOUSE 1

Alterations and additions to an existing home within Holterman Estate B Heritage Conservation Area, North Sydney Council. Compliance was a Development Application through North Sydney Council.

This project is an alterations and additions to an existing semi-detached weatherboard cottage in quite a dilapidated condition. The original front facade and building form was retained with a contemporary internal reconfiguration and new rear addition, with a first floor master suite added. A new open plan kitchen, dining and living area at the rear of the house opens up to a deck area making what is quite a narrow site feel spacious and open. Double height ceiling spaces over the entry hallway and stair void, combined with pitched ceilings, skylights and large window openings maximised northern light into the house. What was originally a dark, tight semi was opened up into a light filled spacious home which met the clients needs to accommodate their expanding family.

DA approval of the house took six months and the entire project took two and a half years from beginning to end. Contemporary Architecture was involved in the design, approval, construction documentation and interior design stages of the project.
